Your weight loss surgery journey begins by attending a free educational seminar. During this seminar you will learn about the adjustable gastric band and how it can be used as an effective tool in your weight loss journey.
Step two is to arrange an appointment with one of our surgeons. During this appointment, you will receive more information about obesity surgery and your individual options. The surgeons and their staff will meet with you and perform the appropriate tests and consults to obtain surgical clearance. All of these things are done for your safety.
Step three is when you will be asked to participate in more educational classes before your surgery is scheduled. These classes are to help you learn how to live and work with your new band.
The next step is scheduling your weight loss surgery. After the date has been arranged with the hospital, the nurses will call you prior to the surgical date to ask you a few questions about your medical history, give you instructions including arrival time, and answer any questions you may have.
On your day of weight loss surgery, you will be admitted at Surgical Specialty Hospital of Arizona and taken to the pre-op holding area. Our nurses will help you get ready for surgery, sign your consents, start your IV, and finish any pre-op tests that your surgeon has requested.
During your pre-op experience, the OR nurse will also come in to discuss with you what will happen once you are inside the operating room. The anesthesiologist will interview you and discuss your individual options for anesthesia. Your surgeon will also speak with you again concerning your obesity surgery.
From pre-op you will be taken into the OR. Your OR nurse will remain at your side throughout the weight loss surgery.
After your surgery, you will wake up in our recovery room where our nurses will provide post-operative recovery care for you.
When you are a little more alert and stable you will walk to a room on our medical-surgical floor; there you will be able to rest until you have met discharge criteria. The nurses will review with you the instructions your doctor has given for you to take home.
Now that you have had your LAP-BAND placed, your new life will begin. You will follow up with your bariatric surgeon as instructed, and support groups in Phoenix Arizona will be available to help you achieve and sustain your weight loss goals.
